CREATING SMALL REVOLUTIONS OF JOY ONE DAY AT A TIME
Flexing The Muscle In Your Head
Use It Or Lose It!
My niece recently brought the most adorable baby boy into the world. She is thoroughly enjoying motherhood and sends the ‘Aunties’ regular text updates of all the precious milestones her son is hitting.
It takes me back to that magical time when my own kids were discovering the world.
Each day, in the life of a tiny human, is plum full of learning. They seem to revel in experiencing and figuring new things out. Their eyes light up in wonder at each original moment and they delight in the beauty of it.
As an adult, learning or trying new things can be a completely different experience. We can become so at ease in our comfort zones that a simple mental challenge can cause our heart to beat faster, our palms to sweat, and even send us into a mild panic attack.
It is interesting to note that learning something new on a regular basis has been directly linked to well being and happiness. In fact, it has been shown by research to be one of the most important factors for improved health and longevity.
Midlife has brought me an opportunity to switch roles in my life. I’ve had to learn several new things and the list never ends. It’s not always easy. In fact, I will admit, sometimes it’s downright scary. However, at the end of the day, I relish in the fact that I had fun and it brought me joy.
I encourage you to try learning something new every day. Bring your inner child back out to play and relish in the joy it adds to your day!
