The day started off like any other summer day. I awoke to my Sesame Street alarm clock at 6 am so I could watch cartoons.

“Good morning, it’s me! Your friend Big Bird. The old schoolhouse clock says it’s time to get up! So brush your teeth, wash your face, and don’t forget to wind the clock!”

I grabbed my dish of cold cereal and headed to the basement to enjoy a whole hour all to myself. Slowly the house began to liven up. I could hear my mom walking in the kitchen upstairs. Then my dad making coffee and leaving for work.

Finally, my sister and brother emerged from their bedrooms and started their normal routine. My sister left for her summer job which left just me, my brother, my mom, and our beagle Prissy home for the day.

Prissy was a typical beagle. In her younger years, she would often disappear for hours chasing rabbits. We would hear her baying from the distance and a rabbit would run by. Several minutes later we would see Prissy, nose glued to the ground, in hot pursuit of that rabbit. When she would finally come home her nose would be plugged with dirt!
